Alabama Youth Tour
Joe Wheeler EMC is proud to sponsor 15 youth from our service area to join more than 130 others from Alabama for the annual Alabama Cooperative Youth Tour in Montgomery. This wonderful opportunity is sponsored by the Electric Cooperatives of Alabama and the Alabama Rural Electric Association as part of a grassroots program to educate students on electric cooperatives, cooperative ideas and various aspects of state government.
With visits to State Capital, the Civil Rights Memorial, Dexter Avenue King Memorial Church and the Alabama Voices exhibit housed at the Alabama Department of Archives and History, students will experience the unique history and culture that defines our capital city. Students will participate in a variety of leadership building activities and built friendships with a diverse group of young men and women representing 19 electric cooperatives from across Alabama.
Five delegates chosen from the Montgomery Youth Tour will go on to represent JWEMC as part of the Washington Youth Tour. They will join more than 50 youth, representing electric cooperatives from across Alabama, on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to our nation’s Capitol. Once there, they will meet with more than 1,500 youth from all over the country to learn about leadership and the cooperative business model.
Participating in the Youth Tour is an awesome way to learn about this great nation, develop leadership skills, gain a better understanding of electric cooperatives, and make friendships that will last beyond the week!
